Before you start using Product engineering, set up the Product engineering parameters.

You can define the behavior of these product engineering functions:
  • Engineering version control
  • Release control
  • Attribute search
  • Engineering change
  • Number sequences

Product manager Product manager Start Start Set up engineering version control parameters Set up engineering version control parameters Define if it is allowed to use inactive or not-effective engineering versions on transactions. Procedure 1. Go to Product engineering > Setup > Product engineering parameters. 2. Choose to allow or block invalid engineering versions on transactions. 3. Close the page. Set up engineering release control parameters Set up engineering release control parameters Set up the release control parameters to define the behavior of releasing and receiving products.  Procedure 1. Go to Product engineering > Setup > Product engineering parameters. 2. Click the Release control tab. 3. In the Release control field, select an option. 4. In the Item number rule field, select an option. 5. In the BOM name rule field, select an option. 6. In the Route name rule field, select an option. 7. Select an option in the Run BOM check field. 8. In the Release behavior of inactive BOM field, select an option. 9. In the Release behavior of inactive route field, select an option. 10. In the Template BOM item field, enter or select a value. 11. In the Template purchase item field, enter or select a value. 12. In the Template service item field, enter or select a value. 13. Select an option in the Copy BOM approval field. 14. Define if, on releasing an item, a BOM activation is copied from the engineering company to the logistical company. Otherwise, the BOM must be activated again in the logistical company. Select an option in the Copy BOM activation field. Note: You can only select the Copy activation check box if the BOM approval is copied. 15. Select an option in the Copy route approval field. 16. Define if, on releasing an item, a route activation is copied from the engineering company to the logistical company. Otherwise the route must be activated again in the logistical company. Select an option in the Copy route activation field. Note: You can only select the Copy activation check box if the approval is copied. 17. Close the page. Set up engineering attribute search parameters Set up engineering attribute search parameters Define if the on-hand inventory is shown in the product attribute search. Procedure 1. Go to Product engineering > Setup > Product engineering parameters. 2. Click the Attribute search tab. 3. You can choose to show on-hand inventory when doing a product attribute search. 4. Close the page. Set up engineering change parameters

Set up engineering change parameters

To be able to work with engineering change management, this setup is required:

  • Change categories
  • Change priorities
  • Severity rule
  • Re-release impacted products
  • BOM level restriction

Define product engineering number sequences Define product engineering number sequences Define the number sequences that are used for:Staging journals: JournalIdEngineering change orders: Order numberEngineering change requests: Change request Procedure 1. Go to Product engineering > Setup > Product engineering parameters. 2. Click the Number sequences tab. 3. For each reference, choose a predefined number sequence code or create a new one and assign it. 4. Close the page. Set up BOM number sequence Set up BOM number sequence If you use a staging journal to release products with a BOM, you cannot manually enter a BOM number. Therefore, a BOM number sequence is required in the engineering company to automatically number BOMs. Procedure 1. Go to Organization administration > Number sequences > Number sequences. 2. Click Number sequence. 3. In the Number sequence code field, type a value. 4. In the Name field, type a value. 5. In the Scope field, select 'Company'. 6. In the Company field, enter or select a value. 7. Determine what format you desire for your BOM IDs 8. Click Add to open the drop dialog. 9. In the Area field, select an option. 10. In the Reference field, select BOM. 11. Click OK. 12. Leave Manual set to ’No’ as the number sequence is used to automatically generate BOM numbers in Product engineering. 13. Close the page. End End
